Cyber-attacks, reportedly launched in China, infiltrated the foreign ministries of Latvia, Czech Republic, Portugal, Hungary and Bulgaria, according to a report by computer security company FireEye, published December 2013.

“Unlike other groups, which tend to attack commercial targets, this campaign specifically targeted ministries of foreign affairs,” Nart Villeneuve, the researcher who helped lead FireEye’s efforts,” told Bulgarian news agency novinite.com.

The hackers reportedly sent emails out to ministry officials with naked photos of model and wife of former French president, Carla Bruni. Investigators are still working on discovering which files may have been compromised.

China’s foreign ministry has denied any involvement in the issue.
