Latvia joins OECD Anti-Bribery convention
Latvia has completed the process of joining the the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Anti-Bribery Convention and is set to become the 41st party to the convention on May 30, the OECD announced April 7.
“Joining the convention will enable Latvia to play a more active role in global efforts to tackle bribery and corruption,” OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria said.
This step also will strengthen Latvia’s ties with the OECD, which invited the country to join the convention in September 2013.
According to conventional rules, Latvia will undertake systematic reviews on the implementation of anti-bribery laws, which will begin June 2014, according to OECD.
The OECD established the Anti-Bribery Convention that prohibits bribery of foreign public officials in international business transactions in 1999.
