Russian Anti-Corruption Foundation discovers real estate worth RUB 86 mln belonging to LDPR deputy-speaker
Russian opposition leader, and founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, Alexei Navalny, reportedly traced an undeclared property worth RUB 86 mln to the deputy-speaker of the right-wing minority Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), Igor Lebedev, the Russian business daily Kommersant reported on Feb. 18.
“Igor Lebedev bought a 442 sqm apartment worth RUB 86.8 mln in a 36-floor tower called Botanica in Dubai in 2009, Kommersant wrote. “The LDPR deputy-speaker’s official income would not be able to subsidize such a purchase.”
The Anti-Corruption Foundation allegedly gained its intelligence from a real estate company in Dubai called Royal Home Real Estate, which specializes in the sale and rental of luxury apartments.
“According to Navalny, the company posted scanned copies of their clients’ passports on their website. Thanks to the Google search engine more than 500 documents, meant for internal use, became publicly available,” Kommersant wrote.
Navalny claimed that according to Lebedev’s declarations, he should not have the funds to make such a purchase. Reportedly, Lebedev’s largest revenue, recorded in 2011, amounted to RUB 12 mln.
The Anti-Corruption Foundation demanded Lebedev’s resignation, as well as clarification on his additional incomes.
Igor Lebedev is the son of LDPR-leader, Vladimir Zhyrinovski.
