Four Romanians found guilty of bank fraud in UK
Four Romanian citizens have been found guilty of a bank fraud in the UK, the Romanian Insider reported Aug. 22.
“Florin S., Vasile P., Ovidiu M and Adriana T. pleaded guilty to several fraud offences after police uncovered what they described as a ‘fraudster’s utopia’ in Harrow, Middlesex,” the newswire reported.
During the fraudulent activities of the four Romanian citizens a total of 953 bank accounts had been compromised and GBP 161,697 was stolen and transferred overseas to Panama, Romania, Italy and Colombia.
A local prosecutor explained that the Romanians were working based on a three-stage approach.
“They were involved in three stages of fraud, namely: stealing bank card data from cash machines, downloading it on to a computer and then copying details on to counterfeit plastic cards,” according to the prosecutor, as cited by the newswire.
Following the trial, the four Romanians have been punished with imprisonment sentences between 21 and 64 months for stealing bank card details from over 60,000 people from the UK and abroad.
