PKP Cargo to announce tender for 10 new engines
PKP Cargo, a Polish rail logistic company, will announce over the next few weeks a tender for the purchase of 10 new multi-system engines worth PLN 200 mln, business news portal TVN 24 Biznes i Świat reported.
Adam Purwin, the president of the PKP Cargo’s board, stated that the increase of company’s fleet is a natural consequence of the realization of company’s strategy.
“It will allow us to strengthen our position in surrounding markets. Our engines can already operate in the eight countries where the main transport routes are crossing”, Purwin added.
In different European countries engines are powered by different voltages. Multi-system engines are equipped in fittings allowing them to adjust to different voltages.
The company expects that the new engines to be delivered between 2016 and 2017. So far no information about the financing of the purchase has been published.
PKP Cargo is the largest Polish railroad transport operator and the second biggest in EU second only to Deutsche Bahn. International operations are becoming much more important to the company. In the first quarter of 2014 53 percent of all transport was multi-jurisdictional.
The company also announced that the diversification of income is one of key elements of its strategy.
PKP cargo currently holds permits to operate in: Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Belgium, Netherlands and Hungary and on the flange rails of normal size in Latvia.
