Edward Snowden has received permission for residence in Russia for the next three years, the Russian daily, Kommersant, wrote on Aug.7.
“Former Central Intelligence Agency and Defense Intelligence Agency employee Edward Snowden has obtained residence permission in Russia for three years, this came into force Aug. 1,” Snowden’s attorney, Anatoly Kucherena, said. “Eventually, he will be able to apply for Russian citizenship.”
This summer marked one year since Edward Snowden arrived in Russia asking Moscow for a temporary asylum for him, Kommersant wrote.
Snowden requested asylum in Russia after he released US intelligence data through eavesdropping techniques. The temporary asylum he received last year expired on July 31.
