Head of the Slovak National Motorway Company fined over dubious contract
The head of the Slovak state-owned National Motorway Company (NDS), Milan Gajdos, has been fined by the Constitutional Court over conflict of interests surrounding insurance contracts signed on behalf of the authority, the Slovak newswire The Daily reported Aug. 4.
“The court ruled that Gajdos is to be stripped of one year’s salary worth around EUR 40,000, but it is believed that the incriminating insurance contract covers Gajdos for the loss,” the local media reported.
Milan Gajdos was charged with acting in a conflict of interests in signing a dubious contract with Allianz insurance company in 2012. A parliamentary committee found Gajdos guilty of concluding a contract with extraordinary terms, which included insuring managers against sexual harassment lawsuit as well as for the payment of any fines or penalties. This indicates that fine of ca. EUR 40,000 imposed on Gajdos probably will be covered by the insurance.
Daniel Mako, a CFO at NDS, is also a subject of the same accusations. However, his appeal is still pending.
