Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus sign Eurasian Economic Union treaty
The presidents of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus signed the European Economic Union treaty purposed to unify the system of customs tariffs among the three states in Astana on May 29, the Russian daily Rossiyskaya Gazeta wrote.
“Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan officially signed the Eurasian Economic Union treaty under which an official zone to unify customs tariffs among the three countries was created,” Rossiyskaya Gazeta wrote.
According to the Kremlin, the Eurasian Economic Union will bring integration of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus to a completely new level.
“This meeting has a truly historical significance,” Nazarbayev said. “The treaty is balanced and competent, and pays respect to the interests of all three states,” he added.
The system of unified tariffs will come into force Jan. 1, 2015, according to the treaty.
