ABW arrests alleged Belarusians spies
According to unofficial sources within the Internal Security Agency (ABW), agency has arrested two Belarusian suspected of spying for Russia, Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza informed.
Yesterday the parliament committee for secret services met on the extraordinary meeting during which they were informed about the arrest. Instead of the Sejm the meeting took place in the headquarter of the Military Intelligence Service (SWW).
Allegedly Belarusians were gathering information about Polish military structures for Russia. Polish special services decided about the arrest because of their increased activity due to a Crimean crisis, TVN 24 reported.
First information about the arrest came into daylight more than a week ago but due to a national security matters it was not publicized, Gazeta Wyborcza informed.
The unusual place of the meeting suggests that the information about two Belarusians spies came originally from SWW and it was passed to ABW as the military structure is not authorized to operate on the territory of Poland.
The spokes-person of the ABW, Lt Col Maciej Karczyński, did not want to comment the matter. Instead he told journalists to contact with the Warsaw Appellate Prosecutor’s Office.
According to ABW’s official reports, the Agency conducted four operations against foreign spies operating in Poland in 2010, two in 2011 and none in 2012. All of them were related to individuals working for Belarus or Russia.
