Inland revenue to become “tax police”

Inland revenue agents, may be granted authority to carry out tasks similar to that of the police service, according to a new initiative by the Finance Ministry, Sofia press agency novinite.com wrote on January 13.

“Tax agents are proposed to now hold the powers to carry out interrogations, to inspect premises, to conduct searches, to seize property and the like,”novinite.com wrote.

Bulgaria’s National Revenue Agency may be cleared to get the same powers as that of the police service if new legislation proposed by Finance Minister Simeon Djankov is passed.
